Stolen Songs by Samantha Armstrong

35517953. sy475

Maddison is a survivor. An unstable childhood has taught her to depend on no one but herself, which is exactly how she’s gotten to where she is today. With a scholarship to one of the most prestigious schools in the country, she’s finally able to settle into one location until she graduates. But with foster parents hooked on drugs, Maddison is forced to steal to make ends meet, not only for herself but her foster siblings.

Kingsley is filthy rich. An only child, he lives with a mother who is dependent on alcohol, a father who doesn’t talk to him, and his chef, the only real family he has. His life changes when he overhears Maddison playing the cello. She’s snappy, hot, and wants nothing to do with him, and he’s obsessed. As they spend time together, she begins to lower her guard. She’s everything he needs, everything he wants, and for the first time, he’s able to tell someone about his past. Everything is perfect. Until he ruins it.

Maddison has had a really hard time of it so far in her life and the one thing that has made it better for her is Music. Maddison has been awarded with a scholarship at her school which has really saved her. The school she goes to if for rich kids and she doesnt really have any friends at all until she meets Kingsley.
Kingsley doesnt understand this connection he feels towards Maddison and they both try to fight it but they are connected in their pain and their past. Kingsley just wants to take care of Maddison like nobody else has before.

When this relationship is good its really really good but when its bad its disastrous.

I love all of the characters in this book and I am glad that this story touches on things that are not usually approached in YA books. I don't think I have ever read a story about a foster child before so it was definitely something different. Tilly (Maddisons sister) is actually the sweetest little girl I have read about.

I really enjoyed this and I can't wait for the second book in this series.

Blood and Other Matter by Kaitlin Bevis

44586967. sy475

Derrick Hernandez and Tess D’Ovidio have been best friends forever. There’s nothing they wouldn’t do for one another. But their childhood bond is put to the test when Tess shows up on Derrick’s porch covered in blood…Tess has no memory of what happened. She’d gone to a bush party with one of the football players. She remembers the bonfire…and then, nothing. Working backward, Tess and Derrick learn that she and seven other players were the only ones to make it back from the party alive.

During the next few weeks, each of the survivors is plagued with nightmares that reveal fragments of memories from the horrific night. But when the young men start dying under mysterious circumstances, Derrick can’t figure out if Tess is next—or if she’s somehow responsible. All he knows is that he has to save his best friend—or die trying…

Imagine if your best friend went to a party and then turned up at your house in different clothes and also covered in blood! It would be terrifying but its actually becoming normal for Derrick and his best friend Tess.
I don't want to give too much away about this book at all because I think it is a book that you should go into completely blind. There were so many twists and turns and the way that snippets of information are fed to us is really amazing.
Kaitlin Did an amazing job at approaching some scary situations in this book. I really appreciate that she didnt shy away from anything and that the ending wasn't necessarily what everyone would have wanted. I have never read a book quite like this one before.                                                                                                     All of the characters were interesting and I enjoyed that Kaitlin didnt spend too much time describing each individual character when it isn't needed.
I would 120% recommend this book! You can grab it here if you are interested: Amazon
I honestly did not put this book down once I had started it because it was that good!

Kozart (a rockstar romance) by J Nathan

46366240. sy475

Kozart Savage is the world’s biggest rock star.
At twenty-five, he’s got it all. Money. Fame. And the adoration of fans everywhere.
He thought that was enough to make him forget his past.
Enough to transform his distrusting heart.
Turns out that’s not how it works...
Then he meets a bridesmaid hiding out in a hotel bar.
Probably the only girl on the planet who doesn’t know who he is.
But she seems to be the one girl who can give him something no one else can.

Aubrey Prescott just discovered her boyfriend cheating—at her sister’s wedding.
Trying to escape humiliation, she seeks refuge in a hotel bar.
While trying to figure out how to pick up the pieces of what was supposed to be an amazing senior year in college, a handsome stranger interrupts her wallowing.
A stranger who quickly makes her forget why she’s there.
One who, after an unforgettable night, disappears without a second glance.

But walking away doesn’t always mean letting someone go.

I have never read a book quite like this before. I thought the story line was a really interesting concept.
Kozart was a really interesting character to me because I have never ever read about a rock star and just like Aubrey I wouldn't even be able to name you a Rock Star. Kozart can have any girl he likes because he is one of the biggest rock stars in the world. When he sees a sad looking bridesmaid in a bar at a hotel he feels the need to see if she is ok. When he finds out that she has been cheated on by her boyfriend who also happens to be her brother in law brother, Mozart decides to return to the wedding with her.

That is when the story got exciting for me, I liked how Kozart went through and figured out his feelings towards Aubrey.

Aubrey has no idea who Kozart is (other than a handsome man from the bar). It isn't until her sister tells her the next day that she realises she has been hanging out with a celebrity. It didnt really faze Aubrey because she didnt even like Rock music.
This created a really interesting dynamic between the two as their relationship grows.

I really enjoyed this story, It wasnt full of drama but instead it was a story of an odd couple trying to make a relationship work.

I would give this book a 4/5 out of 5 if I could. I would definitely recommend this as a good summer read!

Stay: Odd Jobs 1 by aj Alexander

43163110. sy475

Cole knows he doesn’t deserve the white picket fence kind of life, and he’s always been fine with that, until her. The last thing he ever expected when he knocks on his client’s door is the answer to his deepest fantasies. One look and he knows Addison is out of his league, but that won’t stop him trying to make her his.

Addison never knew if someone’s interest was in her or her family’s wealth, which caused her to keep her guard up. Doubly so when the new dog walker showed up on her cousin’s doorstep with his good looks and sexy smiles. After his relentless pursuing, Addison finds herself wondering if Cole could be someone worth letting her walls down for. That is, until his past rears its ugly head, leaving Addison with the choice to run or fight for what she wants.

Cole has been hurt by girls before. He was in a long term relationship with a girl who thought that she was too good for Cole when he decided to become a dog walker. He caught her cheating on him in his own home and this caused him to become a player.

Addison had also been cheated on by her fiancé who is a disgusting human. He didn't care about Addison at all but did care that her dad could help boost his career.

I enjoyed the back and forth between Cole and Addison and how they were both struggling with their feelings for each other. They were not very nice to each other in the beginning and it was quite funny to read about.
I thought it was a fun quick read, There was a lot of drama and a lot going on which kept the book speedy and interesting.

The only thing I didnt really like was the possessive way that all of the men in this book were towards the girls. It wasn't portrayed in a playful way and it was quite over the top!.

This is definitely not a PG book so if you are going to pick this up just be aware of that. I would recommend this book and it actually got me out of a reading slump!.

Slumber by Becky Bird

46141285

A YA retelling of classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty
Prince Thomas cannot take the throne without a queen. Though the problem isn’t his lack of suitors but his refusal to marry a princess that is less than perfect.

The cardinal presents him with an opportunity: a quest to find the most beautiful princess in the land who has been in slumber for a century. But, unbeknown to the prince, the cardinal plans to kill him as soon as the prince embarks on his quest, and take the throne for himself.
Luckily, Prince Thomas’s path crosses with Lucy, a spirited orphan runaway, who saves his life and convinces the prince to continue the quest. When they eventually find Princess Aurora, they also find another contender – Prince Philip – vying for the princess’s heart.

Despite their mutual disdain for each other, Lucy agrees to assist the prince, and Thomas accepts her help to keep him alive long enough to beat out his competition and return to rule his kingdom alongside his perfect bride.
They just don’t count on falling for each other in the process.

As a massive Disney fan you know I expected a lot from this book! If you are going to write a Sleeping Beauty retelling then I will obviously expect it to be Sleeping Beauty standards. That being said Sleeping Beauty is one of my least favourite Disney Princess movie.
I didn't read the full blurb because I already knew I wanted to read the book.

This story was a quick read and so much fun! I enjoyed following the story of Lucy and Thomas in his quest to find the beautiful princess Aurora. I loved the way Aurora was portrayed as a beautiful but a bit dim witted princess. Aurora is only worried about looks and how beautiful she can be, Usually this would be really annoying however it was actually funny! Prince Philip was a lot like Aurora but a little more annoying and he was also a lot of fun. I enjoyed this different take on two characters that we know really well.

Thomas and Lucy didn't get on at all in the beginning and that is what made them such a fun pair to read about.

I would love to read more about these two.

Escape Room by Megan Goldin

Welcome to the escape room. Your goal is simple. Get out alive.

In the lucrative world of finance, Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam are at the top of their game. They’ve mastered the art of the deal and celebrate their success in style—but a life of extreme luxury always comes at a cost.
Invited to participate in an escape room as a team-building exercise, the ferociously competitive co-workers crowd into the elevator of a high rise building, eager to prove themselves. But when the lights go off and the doors stay shut, it quickly becomes clear that this is no ordinary competition: they’re caught in a dangerous game of survival.
Trapped in the dark, the colleagues must put aside their bitter rivalries and work together to solve cryptic clues to break free. But as the game begins to reveal the team’s darkest secrets, they realize there’s a price to be paid for the terrible deeds they committed in their ruthless climb up the corporate ladder. As tempers fray, and the clues turn deadly, they must solve one final chilling puzzle: which one of them will kill in order to survive?

There are so many movies out right now about escape rooms and obviously Escape rooms themselves are really popular so I thought I knew what I was getting myself into when I started this book but I did not!

I want to start off with the characters because nearly all of the characters in this book were unlikable. They were all selfish and brutal when it came to getting what they wanted but that is the whole point! We are not supposed to like these people.

I dont normally enjoy a thriller but I really enjoyed this book because its just crazy!
The story had motivation and interest. I didnt guess the ending too much before it happened.

I do wish that there was a little bit more focus on the clues and things but I guess that is not really what the escape room was about.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent thriller to read.

Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison

43193837

Perched atop a hill in the tiny town of Marchburg, Virginia, The Goode School is a prestigious prep school known as a Silent Ivy. The boarding school of choice for daughters of the rich and influential, it accepts only the best and the brightest. Its elite status, long-held traditions and honor code are ideal for preparing exceptional young women for brilliant futures at Ivy League universities and beyond. But a stranger has come to Goode, and this ivy has turned poisonous.
In a world where appearances are everything, as long as students pretend to follow the rules, no one questions the cruelties of the secret societies or the dubious behavior of the privileged young women who expect to get away with murder. But when a popular student is found dead, the truth cannot be ignored. Rumors suggest she was struggling with a secret that drove her to suicide.

But look closely…because there are truths and there are lies, and then there is everything that really happened.

I have never read a book by J.T. Ellison before and I always love to find new authors to enjoy. Good Girls Lie was exciting from the get go. It reminded me of wild child in the beginning but then the story took so many twists and turns that it truly was its own unique story.

I liked the characters a lot, I thought Ash was really interesting and the way that the story was written allowed us to really get to know her quite well.
The Girls at Goode were not just your typical rich girls (well some of them were) but they had a lot of personality too.
I enjoyed reading from the POV of the headmistress, I think it gave the book a lot of depth and kept the story from being a bit long and boring.

I don't normally read mystery books because they can't alway keep my attention long enough for me to finish a whole book but I didn't have that problem with Good Girls Lie. There was enough going on in the school that we didn't spend a ton of time dragging out descriptions or unnecessary conversations. I liked that the relationship/ friendship between Becca and Ash wasn't always easy and pleasant because that's real. Teenage relationships are often portrayed as easy but we all know that isn't true.

I love that Ellison didn't drag the story out into a series because I don't think it needed it, I think the story was finished nicely (Well not nicely) with no loose ends which isn't always the case.

I really enjoyed this book. I gave Good Girls Lie a 4* on GoodReads

Collide by Nicole Sobon

Three simple words were all it took to change their lives forever.

Losing a loved one is hard. Learning to survive in their absence? That’s even harder. For Gemma Michaels, life had become difficult following her brother’s death, but the one thing that kept her afloat was the one thing she knew she shouldn’t have desired – her best friend, Ben.
He’d made a promise to her brother – to protect her, no matter what. For Ben, that had meant that she was off limits. But then she slips and tells him the three words he’s been waiting to hear.
Love happens when you least expect it.

This book is the perfect example of short but sweet. I whizzed through this book which is exactly what I needed to get myself out of my reading slump.

I loved Ben and Gemma, They feel like they are really genuine characters. We are almost instantly brought into their love for each other but it isn't actually insta love, these guys have loved each other for a long time.

It doesn't hurt that Ben on the cover looks like Theo James.

I love that towards the end of the book we are brought into some drama rather than chucking everything at us all at once.

Hopefully I can get my hands on book 2!

The Queens Keeper by J.L. Vampa

What if I told you that everything you knew about your life was a lie and that you’re being hunted? What if I told you that you were prey?
This is the reality for Luvenia Rousseau.
Amidst the struggle to survive in a famished, war-torn country and the fight against the phantoms of her past, her family is brutally ripped apart by a tyrant queen’s venomous army. Just when all hope seems lost, she stumbles upon an enchanted realm while the queen hunts for the one who got away.

In theory this should be one of my favourite books. It is a Fantasy with some great character building and a fun romance. Something about this book was just off for me.

Lets start with the things that this book does really well.

The Characters were really diverse and not only that but we were given enough information that I felt like I knew how they would react in certain situations. I liked that the main characters were kind of linked together and how we were told the back story of nearly all of them. Of course I liked the mystical characters too.
I liked Darius, In Fact I think he was my favourite character in this entire book. I felt like he was written really well. Darius wasn't to gruff but also wasn't a big softy either and he for the most part didn't baby Luvi at all which was nice.
I enjoyed the additional elements of magic that creeped into the story but I do wish we had seen more of that.

I liked (maybe not liked but you know what I mean) that Vampa wasn't scared to kill off characters in the beginning and that it wasn't all happy families for Veni.

Ok now the not so great stuff...
The story was confusing. It took a really long time for me to understand what was going on at all and why there were several different lands. The characters names were interesting but because there are so many main characters I couldn't remember who was who.

The addition of mermaids was what really sent me over the edge I just couldn't handle this additional element. It also felt like Vampa was trying to set up a love triangle that never really needed to happen why can't they just be friends?

This book wasn't for me and it put me into a bit of a reading slump to be honest.
I would however like to check out other books by Vampa because the character building was pretty great.

Long Live the Beautiful Hearts by Emma Scott

Long Live the Beautiful Hearts (Beautiful Hearts, #2)

Never again would I allow my heart to become the plaything of someone else.
Never again would I let a man (or men) come between me and my goals.
Never again would I love without feeling the fullness of that love in return.
Not until I knew it was real. And if that took me a lifetime to find, so be it.
Those were my vows, and after all that had happened with Connor and Weston, I was determined to keep them. To protect my heart.
And then he came home, and my vows became his promises.
He held my heart in his hands with reverence and care.
He helped me find my soul’s greatest purpose in life.
He loved me with a love so pure and vibrant, I knew I’d never feel anything like it in a hundred lifetimes.
It was real.
Until it wasn’t.
Until it all came crashing down when I discovered the deep love I thought I’d found was nestled in a web of lies—so soft and silken I hadn’t noticed it was there.
Until it was too late.

So this is the second book in this series, If you have not read the first book then I am sorry for you but also this will contain major spoilers!
I loved the first book in this beautiful story but it ended on a major cliff hanger and I could not deal with the waiting until I could read this one. I have to admit I was not expecting this book to turn out how it did.

So I was always a member of the Wes fan club but I would like to upgrade to number one fan status right now! He is such a strong human, He never ever blamed Connor for anything that happened (Which I wont talk about because I dont want to ruin anything). He wallowed in self pity for a while but when he pulled himself together he really was amazing.

I am pretty sure that I went through all of the emotions possible while reading this instalment. Emma Scotts writing is so beautiful that you cant help but feel what ever the characters are feeling.

I am really happy that Ruby is in this book so much and that she is able to help Connor out. Autumn is still as beautiful on the inside and out! Autumn and Wes are just perfection! one of my newest favourite book couples!

The Kiss Thief by L.J. Shen

41450662

They say your first kiss should be earned.
Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.
They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.
Mine were broken before we left church.
They say your heart only beats for one man.
Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.
I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.
Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.
They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.
I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.
One kiss.
Two men.
Three lives.
Entwined together.
And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

Ok so wow! This book is a fun combination of Beauty and the Beast, A Mafia movie and 50 shades of Grey.
Francesca is practically sold to Wolfe Keaton and she hates it! Story is definitely not an insta love story.
I liked that although the story is set in modern day but because of the culture and the situation Frankie still gets to wear fancy dresses and gowns which makes me happy.

So Wolfe has had a pretty bad start to his life and it hasn't made him the nicest human to be around. He is selfish, cold and mean. Wolfe doesn't hold back on his words and when he decides to take Francesca from her home and the boy she loves just to show Frankies dad that he is in control. Wolfe underestimated Francesca immediately. It was nice to see him soften a little throughout the book.
I do wish that Wolfe acted his age a lot more in the story, He is 30 years old however he still acts younger but this isn't a big deal.

I liked Francesca and how she stood up for herself against Wolfe even when she was scared or upset but it showed her as strong. I like that this was shown because her Dad was evil and her Mum didn't seem to have been able to teach Francesca to be a strong woman. I wish that the relationship after the wedding would have developed a bit slower and Wolfe's opinion on safe sex is terrifying.

Overall this was a super fun read that i wizzed through really quickly.
I would definitely recommend this book.

I Spy the Boy next door by Samantha Armstrong

43724738

Four p.m. spy sessions are the highlight of Mallory Taylor’s day. Observing the boy next door—one with a body and an attitude to match—has her perched beside her window so often it can't be healthy.

When she finally convinces her mom to let her go to public school, Mallory comes face to face with her neighbor, Troy Parker. And he makes it clear he wants nothing to do with her. His rejection awakens a newfound tenacity and maybe even a touch of recklessness. But when Troy starts to show up when she needs him the most, Mallory can’t help but wonder if there’s more to him than he’s let on.

Taking chances, breaking rules, and following her heart is all new to Mallory. And no one warned her just how fickle hearts can be. When she discovers that Troy isn’t at all the guy she imagined him to be, secrets rise to the surface that will change her life forever.

We have all been there when we just need to spy on a boy, whether it be out of our bedroom window or online so Mallory is instantly relate able in that way. Mallory is the good girl, innocent and home schooled doesn't really stand a chance when it comes to bad boy Troy.

The relationship between Troy and Mallory is a little bit predictable but this is the same in lots of YA romance books. If there isn't a good girl meets bad guy romance then is it really swoon worthy? I actually really liked there relationship, they seemed realistic (sort of) and they balanced each other out nicely. One thing that wasn't realistic however was that Mallory had a lock on her bedroom door and Troy was free to climb in and out whenever he pleased. Isn't this every teen girls dream? for this much privacy.

I liked the twist when we found out about Mallorys past and the devotion Troy showed towards her. It was interesting to see almost a whole community come together to support Mallory.  There were some really cute and really gripping moments in this story and the writting was perfect. I sped through the book and in my opinion that is how a YA romance should be.

Because this is a stand alone I would have loved to learn a little more about Mallory and Nic's friendship and how that was when they finally met and also what happened when Mallory went to college? Did Troy just follow her around?
Overall though I really enjoyed this and would recommend for a cute and interesting read. I rated it 4* on Goodreads.

Thank you Net Galley and Samantha Armstrong for providing me with a review copy of I spy the boy next door in exchange for my honest opinion.

Her Wild Ride by Heather Van Fleet

43888090

I’m not a hero. I’m a bad dude who’s done bad things. And the sooner she understands that, the better off we’ll be.

I’ve just got out of prison and I’m running from my MC, so my step-sister’s best friend has agreed to drive me across the country.

Summer’s my ride. That’s all. But she captivates me, and I don’t have a damn clue why. She’s a distraction I can’t afford.

Is it because I’ve been told she’s forbidden?

Is it because she’s preppy and freakin’ beautiful, so not a part of my world?

With every mile of our trip, every spark of connection, she seems to inch closer to me. The temptation is too much to resist.

But she has no idea just how dangerous life would be with me. I broke club rules. I betrayed my brothers to save a woman’s life. If the Red Dragons find us we’ll be in trouble. And if I give into my desires, she’ll be in deeper than she realises…

I was expecting a fun road trip kind of story with bad boy Niyol and preppy Summer and I got that but this story was so much more than that too.

Niyol is Bad even on your usual bad boy standards but somehow we can still see that he isn't as bad as he makes out. We can see almost straight away that Niyol has some kind of feelings for Summer but he tries his hardest to resist, not wanting her to fall into his world. Summer challenges Niyol probably in ways he has never been challenged before and he likes that about her.

I loved the dual POV for this book i think it definitely needed for us to see both perspectives to enjoy the story. Heather's writing style is smooth and fun, i wizzed through this book super quickly which is always nice.

The ending left me with questions! mostly I want to know if Lisa is a traitor or if she did it for some other reason. there were a lot more twists and turns than I expected.

I have never ever read a Biker story let alone a biker romance and I didnt know that this was something I needed in my life but I do.

A fun book that I would recommend.
