The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

17199504. sy475

The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing.

It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season introduces a compelling heroine and also introduces an extraordinary young writer, with huge ambition and a teeming imagination. Samantha Shannon has created a bold new reality in this riveting debut

So I have to admit something to start of this review, I have had my copy of this book on my shelf for over a year and I know we are not supposed to judge books by their cover but I think that is what I have been doing because I didnt pick this up.
I am so glad I decided to read it because I think this is the first 5* book of 2020.

The story is slightly confusing to begin with but that is because they are building the world up but it is still very fast paced and I would much prefer a little bit of confusion than a slow paced story. I enjoyed the complicated network of Voyants and the different skills they possess.

I liked Paige well enough because she wasnt wimpy or needy at all and she didnt need saving by the men in her life which was refreshing.

I found the romance a little predictable but that doesnt really matter at all and I think the relationship will grow in ways that I couldnt anticipate.

I have already ordered the second book and I cant wait to get stuck into it!

Thanks for Reading
