Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Scarlett has never left the tiny island where she and her beloved sister, Tella, live with their ruthless father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval, the legendary, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show, are over.
Then, Scarlett’s long-dreamt of invitation to Caraval finally arrives. So, Tella enlists a mysterious sailor’s help to whisk Scarlett away to this year’s show. But as soon as the trio arrives, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But she nonetheless soon becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic with her sister, with Legend, and with the other players in the game. And whether Caraval is real or not, she must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over, a dangerous domino effect of consequences is set off, and her sister disappears forever...

This book has so much hype already and it isn't released until January 31st! Now that I have read it I can see why.
The Caraval is many different things all rolled into one. It's a game, a mystery, a romance and much more than that. The reader is completely immersed in the story from the second the book is opened. The plot is uncovered in perfect stages so I felt as though I was playing along with Scarlett. I have found that some mystery books allow the reader to figure out what is going on before the characters in the book but that can be very frustrating because you end up wanting to shout at the characters but this doesn't happen in Caraval. We find the clues the second that Scarlett does which means that we can experience the same twists and turns.

For the whole of the book I couldn't help myself and I was trying to figure out who Legend is and who the other characters are. I found most of the characters interesting even the baddies were a lot more than baddies. I loved Scarlett a lot more than Tella because she seemed to stay truer to herself but with that said both sisters loved each other and they were both trying to protect each other.

This book was so much fun I wish it would go on a little bit longer. I couldn't find anything wrong with this book. I enjoyed it so much. I don't want to give anything away because half of the fun is figuring the Caraval out.

Thanks for Reading

I received this book in exchange for an honest review and I am so grateful that I was able to read this before release.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I have been gone for a while. I had a slump, I couldn't get through books but I am back now Woo!! SO lets get down to it.

This is about a super cool girl named Karou who is an amazing artist and draws all of these strange creatures. Her hair is Blue! Karou disappears on strange errands all the time and doesn't tell anyone anything about them, not even her best friend.

The story is set in Prague and the description of the city is stunning. It has made me want to visit Prague in the winter.
Karou is a cool character, there is a lot going on with her but she handles things with a little help from Brimstone. I liked the relationship between Karou and Brimstone because it was something crazy that I have never read before.

Lets talk about the good things first.
The story is interesting and mostly imaginative. There were a few parts of the plot that were pretty predictable but there was enough creativity for me to let it slide. The characters are very different and new so that keeps you drawn into the story. There is a lot for you to learn about Karou and the rest of the gang.

The bad bits were not really terrible. I felt that we were given a lot of information in the last third of the book and I think I would have preferred if the information could have been interwoven into the story maybe as another point of view.

I am grateful to the book for helping me out of the slump but I don't think I will carry on with the series.

Thanks for reading
